Katherine Rhodes is an award-winning artist and printmaker with a love of landscape. Her artwork captures the places and experiences we have with adventure and activities in the outdoors. Explorations of moors, paths, rocks and mountains, water and coast. Many feature the rocks and rugged places where she has walked or visited. Particularly, the gritstone edges and places popular for climbing that are in the Peak District close to Sheffield. Often the title of the artwork will reference the place, climbing route or rock face that is portrayed.
Katherine makes her print artwork in her studio in Sheffield. She cuts the shapes of the rocks and other subjects into a piece of linseed oil based “linoleum” or lino, to create the printing plate. This is is used to print from by hand using traditional printmaking techniques. She builds up the image by printing one colour layer over another, using oil-based printing inks onto cotton rag paper. Her artwork is exhibited regularly in exhibitions and galleries in Sheffield, London and elsewhere the UK.
