Based on my photography in the Stokes Croft area of Bristol, this painting feature a view looking down a graffiti covered alley.

3 questions on inspiration with
John Curtis
We're asking artists to choose one notable person, place and object that has inspired them in their journey so far. We're mapping inspiration at a scale never attempted before
01.
Person
My favourite artist is Jackson Pollock, who’s art inspired me to take up painting and selling artwork around 20 years ago after seeing his work close up at the Guggenheim Museum on a trip to New York. I loved the frenzied style of dripping paint and I used to produce abstract art, but this had evolved over the last few years into my current style.
02.
Place
Stokes Croft, in Bristol. This area of Bristol inspires my artwork and I have painted many paintings based on my photography in that area. The area has an ever changing colourful landscape of graffiti and tags on buildings which I reproduce in my artwork, capturing a moment in time.
03.
Object
The spray can. As well as using spray paint for my art, I find discarded spray cans and nozzles fascinating and like miniature pieces of abstract art. I have done some paintings which feature old and rusty spray cans.
