I’ve always loved lemurs. I’ve been lucky enough to work with them for many years, and they never cease to amaze me with their charisma and beauty. It was only a matter of time before I just had to paint one! Ring-tailed lemurs are probably the best known species, and you can see why with their striking markings and glowing orange eyes. Their calls are soft and mewing, reflected in their Latin name Lemur catta, and their movements are indeed cat-like. They make excellent ambassadors for their kind, as all species of lemurs (and there are over a hundred of them) are threatened with habitat loss and ultimate extinction. As an animal care professional and conservation geek, I feel it’s my duty to raise awareness of the plight of these spectacular creatures.
