During lockdown I would walk the same local path or run on the same route “Road to Elvington” was inspired by the roads and pavements on my repeated journey. Traditionally, roads are seen by some as mundane and boring, with people preferring to look at their surroundings not at their feet, however I have always found roads to be abstract and unique. I find the patterns, textures, and range of colours inspiring, and are special to the place where I have created fond memories of the tranquillity of escaping everyday life and worries through my daily exercise. Like my journeys, the road was constantly the same, which felt dependable, unlike the ever-changing nature of my rural surroundings and the situation in the country at the time. It was this repetition, coupled with the road’s uniqueness, that I wanted to replicate in my artwork.
