'The Swing Bridge in Afternoon Light, Newcastle upon Tyne' was painted ‘en plein air’ during the Winter of 2020 when the sun was low in the sky, throwing some wonderful violet coloured shadows from the bridge over the road and surrounding pavement.
Capturing the warmth of the light on the white steel arches of the bridge and on the red steelwork was particularly enjoyable and I loved the contrast of the modern architecture with the medieval Newcastle castle in the background, a defining feature of the city skyline.
